The American Academy of Dermatology’s dry heel guidance recommends brief bathing, a mild fragrance-free cleanser, moisturizing after bathing and well-fitting shoes. It also describes using petroleum jelly before bed. Choose products with a clinician’s help if you are unsure what suits your skin.
These habits do not establish a guaranteed healing timeline. Severe or persistent cracking can have causes that a salon cannot diagnose. Seek a dermatologist’s advice if the problem is severe or does not improve.
When should a salon appointment wait?
If your skin is bleeding, looks infected or is painful, contact a qualified clinician before booking a cosmetic service. If you have diabetes, ask your healthcare team about appropriate foot care. The AAD’s diabetes guidance advises contacting a doctor about sores, wounds, swelling or other foot changes.
A pedicure does not replace that assessment. The salon cannot promise to repair deep cracks, restore circulation or treat infection, and cosmetic exfoliation should not be presented as medical treatment.
